Yes, I have started thinking about Christmas. Trying to get going on my holiday plans to make the season less crazy. But, first I do have to get through Thanksgiving and give thanks for all my blessings.
Mary Ann (my cousins wife) is a social worker for children in foster care. In order to make their holidays brighter Charlie and I are going to sponsor a young lady named Ebony for Christmas. Ebony lives in a group home away from her other 3 siblings. To help Ebony have a nice holiday I have been pouring over her Holiday Wish List. Ebony is like every child who would like a lot for Christmas. Her list includes:
Roller Blades
Skate Board
Leap Frog Books(educational learning tools)
Clothes( she could really use these)
Apparently, what the state only gives each foster family a month for all the child's expenses doesn't cover anything extra. Typically, these children's only receive one gift for Christmas from donations. If you would like to help out please let me know. I truly believe the real meaning of Christmas is helping those less fortunate...................and making their lives better.
Our family is really going to down play the gift giving side of the holidays this year and try to really focus on what is important. That is why I am trying to make it more meaningful like making my own Christmas cards and some of my gifts ( like Martha Stewart). Ha, ha, ha!!! Making the holidays meaningful also includes trying to cut down my Christmas card list that is way over a 100 people. I am making about 60 cards and I haven't figured out what I will do with the rest. I am trying to focus on................JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!!!!
I just found out that my friend Karlene from Minnesota is coming to visit me the day after Thanksgiving! This will be great because I am unable to make my annual Minnesota trip. Usually, I go to Minnesota in December to shop all my favorite 3-day sales that include Mustard Moon, Haupt Antiek Market, Second Hand Rose & all my fav Minneapolis stores. This year I have a friend coming to visit me..............so we will explore Seattle!!!! Yippee!! Things are starting to get hectic here. Construction work on the house tomorrow and Friday, dinner guest tomorrow evening, carpet cleaning Friday, football game Saturday, window sill cleaning Sunday, and on & on. Camille arrives Wednesday night and Karlene on Friday and in between that I am hosting Thanksgiving at my house. Camille is leaving Sunday morning and Karlene on Tuesday. Charlie's brother Lenny arrives on Thursday and I am off to Hawaii on Friday-Monday! Busy, busy, busy!!!!
Tonight Charlie came home and wanted a glass of wine. Well, he immediately fell asleep & hardly touched the wine. And guess what? The wine ended up all over my upholstered chair when he dropped the glass while he was sleeping. Moral of this story is: when you are too tired for wine don't attempt to drink it!
